To Live – Birchwood Road, Petts Wood BR5

Status: Planning Consent

Birchwood Road is the reconfiguration and extension of a substantial detached early twentieth century residence built in the Neo Tudor style by Noel Rees. The property is situated in the extended Chislehurst Conservation Area, within the Petts Wood Garden Suburb.

Petts Wood Green Suburb was laid out by Basil Scruby in the 1920’s and 30’s. Working with architect Leonard Culliford his masterplan defined roads, amenities and plot sizes. With covenants on generous individual plots, he was able to control building lines, roof levels and a limited palette of complimentary building materials, providing a highly ordered compositions, but with variation of design and detailing. Birchwood Road was one of the first roads to be created and the grandest road in the area, characterised by substantial detached houses and located within the Chislehurst Road Conservation Area. Birchwood Road is a fine example of a Noel Rees house in the Neo Tudor style with restricted black and white palette.

Our Planning Permission seeks to protect the setting of the house within the conservation area, and redevelop the interior layout providing generous new living spaces to the rear of the property addressing the mature garden and Petts Wood and Hawk Wood beyond
